'Purpose Driven' event
WARREN -- A simulcast with the Rev. Rick Warren, author of the best seller, "The Purpose Driven Life," will kick off a 40-day program of personal growth, at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave. An estimated 2,800 churches will take part worldwide.
The church has a new video presentation system and will distribute free copies of the book. A free luncheon will follow the simulcast. Call (330) 392-6276.
Annual lecture
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- The Villa Maria Retreat Center, a ministry of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, will have its eighth annual Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Lunch and Lecture at noon May 28. James E. Hug, president of the Center of Concern in Washington, D.C., will present "Seeking Common Ground: Solidarity in a Fractured World." Music and revival
YOUNGSTOWN -- Alpha & amp; Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., will present a program by its Total Praise Choir" at 5 p.m. Sunday.
The church will also have its annual spring revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The guest evangelist will be the Rev. Dr. Booker J. Person, pastor and founder of Cathedral of Holy Bible Church, Chicago, Ill. Call (330) 743-5986.

STRUTHERS -- The National Council of Negro Women Inc., Youngstown Section, will present its 25th annual musical featuring The Weeden Family Singers at 4 p.m. Sunday in Pilgrim Baptist Church, 67 McClure St.
80th anniversary
NILES -- The Southside Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Second St., will celebrate its 80th anniversary at a worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
The building was erected in 1872 for Welsh Presbyterians. A Hungarian group bought the building in 1924. The group began using English in its services in the 1940s and changed the name to the Southside Presbyterian Church in the early 1950s.
First anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Shehy St., will honor its pastor, the Rev. Dr. Edgar Fisher Jr., on his first anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday. Guests will be the Rev. Clifford Kimbrough and the congregation of Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
Church concert
PARKMAN -- Identity, a Christian rock band, and McCabe, a Christian acoustic duo, will perform at 7 p.m. April 30 in Parkman Congregational Church, 18265 Madison Road. An offering will be taken.
Welsh hymn fest
BOARDMAN -- The Calon Lan Welsh Club will have its annual Gymanfa Ganu, or Welsh hymn fest, in the chapel room of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, at 3 p.m. May 2. A traditional tea for $2 will follow. Proceeds benefit the Welsh Home for the Aged in Rocky River, Ohio, and a scholarship foundation. Call (330) 270-9765.

WARREN -- Youngstown District United Methodist Women will have its spring gathering April 29 at Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W. Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The event ends at 2:15 p.m.
