Mount Union
Rob Bauman, a senior baseball outfielder from Newton Falls, leads the team in stolen bases (9-for-10) and runs scored (16). He ranks No. 4 in the OAC in stolen bases.
Ronda Barth, a junior softball outfielder-catcher from Western Reserve High, batted .520 (13-for-25) and drove in 10 runs to help the Purple Raiders win three games last week. Barth leads the team in hitting (.449), hits (35) and slugging percentage (.603). She ranks No. 2 in hitting in the OAC and is No. 3 in hits (35) and tied for No. 2 in doubles (9).
Andrew Blake, a senior on the track and field team from West Branch High, won the shot put (47-10) at the Mount Union Invitational. Teammate John Palmer, a freshman from Maplewood, won the 800 meters (1:58.55).
Sara Payne (East Liverpool) and Eleni Halkias (Warren Harding) have helped the women's tennis team to a school-record 10 wins so far this season. Payne has an 11-4 record, including 4-3 in the OAC; while Halkias is 9-6 and 5-2. Halkias posted a 2-1 record last week at No. 1 singles.
Baldwin-Wallace
Stacey Havaich, a senior on the women's track and field team from Austintown Fitch, won the 1500 (4:49.58) to help the Yellow Jackets place second at the Ohio Wesleyan Marv Frye Memorial Meet.
Chuck Scarbrough, a junior on the golf team from Howland High, had 161 to help the team tie for ninth among 16 teams at the Denison University Invitational. He was tied for 53rd overall. Through that meet, Scarbrough ranked seventh on the team in average with 80.5.
Walsh
Ed Bartolec, a senior pitcher for the baseball team from Poland High, earned his first win of the season when the Cavaliers beat Cedarville, 5-4, in eight innings. Bartolec pitched the first seven innings. Chad Lahna got the save.
Natalie Voytek, a junior on the softball team from Lakeview High, had two hits to help the Cavaliers beat Mount Vernon Nazarene, 2-1.
John Carroll
B.J. Craig from Ursuline High, a senior golfer, tied for 20th with 39-41--80 to help John Carroll place sixth out of nine teams in the Peter Rossin Classic held at Southpointe Country Club in Canonsburg, Pa.
Maureen Morchak from New Middletown, a freshman on the women's track and field team, placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 71-31/2, to help the Blue Streaks win the OAC Northern Meet at Mount Union.
Slippery Rock
Phil Butch, a freshman infielder for the baseball team from Lakeview High, is batting .288 (21-for-73) to help The Rock to a 21-17 record, including 5-7 in the PSAC. Butch also has a team-best three triples plus 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Also with the Slippery Rock team are Ryan Dillon, a freshman outfielder and infielder from Howland High; and Chris Dunn, a sophomore infielder from Mercer High.
Mount Vernon Nazarene
Jason Irish, a senior pitcher for the baseball team from Lakeview High, boosted his record to 4-1 with a three-hit, 4-0 win over Ohio Dominican. Irish struck out four and walked one in the American Mideast Conference South game. He faced only 22 batters over the seven innings by inducing three double plays, with 12 of Ohio Domnican's 21 outs coming on ground balls.
Hiram
Matt Ruby, a senior pitcher for the baseball team from Jackson-Milton High, has compiled a 3-1 record to help the Terriers to a 12-9 record, including 4-6 in the NCAC. Ruby has a 4.39 ERA with 19 strikeouts and 12 walks over 262/3 innings. He has appeared in five games with four starts.
Ohio Wesleyan
Michael Krieger, a sophomore pitcher from Boardman, emerged with the win in relief as the Bishops outlasted John Carroll in 10 innings, 6-5. Krieger boosted his record to 3-2. He has a 3.03 ERA over 292/3 innings with 25 strikeouts and eight walks.
Marietta
Jenny Carroll, a sophomore infielder for the softball team from Beaver Local High, produced a .417 batting average (10-for-24) to help the Pioneers win five games last week.
