COLUMBIANA COUNTY Fair will provide health screenings for kids

Organizers said the event will be informative for parents and fun for children.
LISBON -- Child identification kits, health screenings and health and safety information will be offered free to area children and parents from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center.
The career and technical center and the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services, Health Start and Community Action Agency of Columbiana County will conduct the health and fun fair.
Terry Hutson, health unit coordinator at the career and technical center, said the event will be informative for parents and fun for their children. Parents are invited to bring their children, and children are invited to bring their friends, she said.
For parents and kids
Hutson said Columbiana County Sheriff's Department deputies will take instant photographs, fingerprints and DNA samples of children for the child identification kits. Parents will then have that information at hand to provide to law enforcement if their child is lost or abducted.
Hutson said there will be games, face painting and storytelling for children while parents participate in health screenings and gather information from health and safety booths and vendors.
She said the complimentary blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and body-fat index screenings will be done by students in the career and technical center's adult education medical programs and the high school health academy.
Hutson stressed that although such screenings can be expensive, all are offered free at the health and fun fair.
The career and technical center is at 9364 state Route 45, south of Lisbon across from the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
