BECKY SHER | Hype Ask pals some hard questions, but be sure to moisturize

Sunday, September 28, 2003

Need something to distract you from the drudgery of schoolwork? Pass around a Loaded Questions Slam Book (All Things Equal Inc., $9.99), and you'll forget all about that list of Spanish verbs you have to conjugate.
The concept is simple -- and a little bit addicting. You buy one of the three spiral-bound notebooks (Pop Culture, Personals or Hypotheticals), and write you name and an "alias" inside the front cover. Then flip to the first page and answer the question you find there, using your alias to ID yourself. (We don't really see the purpose of the alias, since you're identified in the front of the book, but it's part of the game, so we'll go along with it.)
Continue through the book answering questions like "Who is your favorite comedian?" "If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be?" and "What two words best describe your skin?" (huh?). When you've recorded everything you love and loathe, pass the book to a friend (only between classes, please) and have him do the same. Pretty soon, you'll have a book full of your pals' answers, which are sure to reveal lots of things you didn't know.
Pick up the Slam Books at Borders stores nationwide.
Moisturizer must-have
Fall means a lot of things: Cooler days, cozy sweaters, corduroy. And dry skin. Yup, sorry -- fall isn't all warm and fuzzy. But if parched, flaky skin is your problem, try Jergens' new lotion, which promises to last a full 24 hours. (Isn't modern technology amazing?) It's called Ultra Healing Intense Moisture Therapy, and at $6 a tube, it's worth a try, right? Here are some other tips on beating dry skin, from dermatologist Mary Lupo:
UShorten your showers, and don't use water that's too hot.
UWhen you're outside in cold or windy weather, cover exposed skin to keep it from getting chapped.
UTurn on a humidifier in your bedroom.
UUse moisturizing lotion while you're still damp from your shower.
Look for Jergens Ultra Healing lotion at supermarkets and drugstores.
