ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOWS
XAngels for Animals, 4750 state Route 165, Canfield, is inviting artists to participate in a Holiday Art Show and Sale Nov. 8 and 9 at the facility. A preview party with hors d'oeuvres, wine and music will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 8 and there will be free public admission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9. XThe Ladies Aid Society of Delightful Evangelical Congregational Church will hold its 30th annual quilt show from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the church, 2473 Barclay Messerly Road and Route 422, Southington. Quilts, needlework, wall hangings, afghans and cross stitch will be shown. Members of the Ladies Aid will demonstrate quilting. Blue ribbon winners from the 2002 show will be displayed. Voting for first through third places will take place until 5 in the categories of hand-sewn quilts, machine quilts, afghans, baby quilts, baby afghans, wall hangings and cross stitch. Fall and Christmas crafts, baked goods, homemade candy and white elephant items will be on sale. Homemade soups, sandwiches and pies also will be sold. There is no admission fee. XKinsman United Methodist Church, 8431 State St., Kinsman, will hold its annual turkey dinner and bazaar Saturday at the church. Bazaar booths will open at 2 p.m. Dinner will be served from 3 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children from 4 to 10 and free for those 3 and younger.
AUCTIONS
XMahoning Valley Grange 1649, Skyhill Road, Edinburg, Pa., will sponsor an auction at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the grange. Quilts, fresh sausage, pork chops, cider, baked goods, produce, handiwork and apple butter will be auctioned. A beef roll-up dinner will be served from 5 to 7. Tickets are available from grange members and at the door. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for those 5 to 12 years old and free for those 4 and younger.
BAZAARS
XHungarian Presbyterian Church, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, will hold a fall bazaar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature a bake sale, craft table and Chinese auction, and dinners of breaded pork cutlet, parsley potatoes, applesauce, salad, dessert and beverage will be served. Cost of the dinner is $7 for adults and $4 for children, and reservations will be taken until Wednesday at (330) 747-8760, (330) 793-3151 or (330) 793-4378.
FUND-RAISERS
XMary, Mother of Hope Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, Pa., will sponsor a super bingo Oct. 3 at the church. Doors open at 7 p.m. and bingo starts at 8. Admission is $30. SALES
XAmerican Legion Post 560, 103 12th St., Campbell, will sponsor a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1-3 at the post.
XA fall trash and treasure sale is planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2 by Boardman United Methodist Church Women at the church, 6809 Market St., Boardman. The second day will be bargain day. Coffee and doughnuts will be available.
XBrookfield Band Boosters are selling bricks that will be placed in front the concession stand at the football stadium. They are available in two sizes: a 4-by-8-inch brick for $50 and a 8-by-8-inch brick for $100 with lettering. Proceeds will go toward band camp and replacement of band bleachers at the stadium. XA rummage, craft and bake sale is planned at Central Christian Church, 44 S. Main St., Hubbard. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 4. New and almost new items will be sold including clothes, a kiln, piano and grass trimmers. Refreshments will include homemade wedding soup and dessert.
XChurch Mouse Thrift Shop, 261/2 Broad St., Newton Falls, will hold a bake sale from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 in conjunction with the community-wide chili cook-off that day.
XFor the benefit of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, National City Bank in Youngstown will sponsor a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Parkman Road bank office, 2345 Parkman Road, Warren.
XA rummage and bake sale is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at New Waterford Community Building, 3760 Village Park Drive, New Waterford, by Crestview High School 2004 After-Prom Parents. XSt. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary will sponsor an apparel sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in the main lobby near the gift shop. Women's fashions in misses, plus and petite sizes, watches and purses will be available. Proceeds will benefit the Guest House.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XMiddlefield Historical Society will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a big band dinner show Oct. 11 featuring the 19-piece Don Burns Orchestra. The event at Cardinal Middle School cafeteria, Almeda Drive and North Thompson Avenue, Middlefield, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a buffet dinner. The orchestra will play from 8 to 10 and feature tunes from the era of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. Paid reservations must be received by Oct. 1. XWarren SCOPE Senior Center will sponsor a "Just for Fun -- Poker Run" Oct. 2. A bus will leave the center, 220 W. Market St., Warren, at 8:30 a.m. and return about 5 p.m. The outing will start with a continental breakfast at West Farmington SCOPE Center. Other stops will be the Bison Farm, Cheese Factory, lunch at Emma's and stops at the Whitehouse Chocolate Factory and Commons General Store. The cost is $37 and includes transportation, meals, prizes and entertainment. Deadline is Sept. 30. Call SCOPE at (330) 399-8846.
