Illinois St. tops Eastern Illinois in Gateway play

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) -- Demetrus Johnson had a 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and rushed for 159 yards as Illinois State beat Eastern Illinois 21-14 Saturday.
Illinois State (3-1) fell behind 14-7 in the first quarter when Fred Miller returned an interception 32 yards for a score and Andy Vincent threw a 35-yard TD pass for Eastern Illinois (1-3).
The Redbirds tied the game in the fourth quarter on a safety by Camero Siskowic, who blocked a punt in the end zone. Johnson's TD run put Illinois State ahead for good with 8:52 left in the game.
Mike Souza was 15-for-34 for 215 yards with one touchdown and an interception for Illinois State. Souza also rushed for 45 yards.
Illinois State outgained the Panthers 482-211.
Eastern Illinois running back Andre Raymond had 110 yards rushing.
