YOUNGSTOWN -- Trial began Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for Patrick E. Pivarnik, 36, of Eastbrook Trail, Poland, charged with vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
Authorities say Pivarnik was driving south on South Avenue in Boardman Township around 2:30 a.m. Feb. 9, 2002, when his car hit a pedestrian who was walking along the road. The victim, Beverly Hogan, survived. Pivarnik waived his right to a jury trial and is instead having the case heard and decided by Judge Jack Durkin. The trial is expected to finish today.
