The benefit event will showcase community organizations.
HUBBARD -- The Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will sponsor its second annual "A Tribute to Black Excellence" benefit dinner-dance Oct. 3.
The event is planned for 7 p.m. at the Brentford House, 737 Myron Ave. Tickets are $30, and attire is semi-formal.
Four categories from the organization's five-point program that will be voted on are:
UEducational development: Protestant Family Services, St. Augustine's Learning Tree and Youngstown Area Alliance of Black Educators.
UPhysical and mental health development: Youngstown-Warren Black Nurses Association, Ebony Lifeline and Youngstown Chapter of Links Inc.
UEconomic development: Women Hand in Hand, Dress for Success and Northside Coalition.
UPolitical Awareness and Involvement: Junior Civic League and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Awards will be presented to the winning community organizations at the dinner-dance.

Arrangements for the event are being made by Michele Dotson, Lynette Sutton and Louella Henderson, ways and means; Fawn Allison and Marcia Haire Ellis, honorees; Cynthia Moore, Catherine Allison and Adrianne Steverson, tickets; Susan M. Moorer, patrons-benefactors; E. Nikki Davis and Gloria Tribble, publicity; Crystal Davis, program; and Sherri Lovelace Cameron, chapter president.
Proceeds will benefit the sorority's scholarship fund.
