TRUMBULL COUNTY Elections board to seek guidance from state on officials' missing data

Monday, October 27, 2003

WARREN -- The failure of Trumbull County Commissioners Joseph J. Angelo Jr. and James Tsagaris to comply with a request for fund-raising records is expected to be referred to the Ohio Elections Commission today, said Norma Williams, Trumbull County Board of Elections director.
The state commission will determine if the matter will be pursued any further, she said.
At a meeting earlier this month, the county elections board set a Wednesday deadline for the two commissioners to submit the names of people who donated less than $25 to their campaigns or bought tickets to recent fund-raisers.
Candidates are required to keep these lists, but generally do not have to submit them to the board. Commissioner Michael O'Brien responded to the board's request with a list of names.
On Thursday, Angelo told the board by letter that he has shown them all the records he has available.
On Wednesday, Tsagaris submitted several years' worth of bank records, but the records do not contain the information the board is seeking, Williams said.
She said the board would ask the state commission for guidance on what to do about records that appear to indicate Tsagaris accepted checks from corporations.
