Questioned in death
WARREN -- A Vernon man is in Trumbull County jail on $100,000 bond on a charge of tampering with evidence and is being questioned in the death of a man found in the Shenango Wildlife Area of Vernon Township.
Bruce Coxson, 46, was arraigned Monday in Eastern District Court in Brookfield on the tampering charge. He surrendered to Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators Friday morning at his state Route 88 home. He was considered a person of interest to police in the death of Charles Palm, 26, of Greenville, Pa., whose body was found by a hunter Oct. 10 in the wildlife area.
Palm was shot three times, the patrol has said. The patrol investigates criminal activity on state-owned or leased property.
Candidates' forum set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Arts and Entertainment District Association and the Mahoning Valley Women's Political Caucus will hold a forum for candidates running for Youngstown City Council and council president at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday in the second floor auditorium of the Ohio One Building. YAEDA will hold a short meeting at 6 p.m., and hospitality begins at 5:30 p.m.

School vandalism
POLAND -- Water-based paint in Canfield High School's team colors of red, black and white was found Friday on six doors at Poland Seminary High School, before the football game that Poland won. Written on the doors were "Beat Poland" and "Go Cards." The paint was removed by school employees. After Friday's game, obscenities were spray-painted on the Canfield High School victory bell in blue and white, Poland Seminary's school colors.
Make a Difference Day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6488 and Auxiliary, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, will participate in Make a Difference Day on Saturday by collecting various items. Donations of canned goods will go the Salvation Army, old cell phones will be re-programmed by Alltel and given to Sojourner House, old eyeglasses will go to the Lions Club, which will repair them and give them to the needy, and baby products will be donated to the Rescue Mission and Sojourner House. Group joins in food drive
CANFIELD -- The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter at Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center has joined in The Mission of Love Foundation food drive. The local FCCLA chapter welcomes community participation in the drive, which will last until Nov. 15.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid to those in need worldwide, especially children. Backed by individuals, local businesses and the U.S. military's Denton Program, the Mission of Love airlifts clothing, medicine, food and building supplies to Third World countries and poverty-stricken U.S. communities such as the South Dakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
The local MCCTC chapter is collecting food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, boxed goods and nonperishable items for the reservation. Collection boxes are set up in the MCCTC Common Area for donations, which will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each school day.
Boy suffers stab wound
SHARON, Pa. -- A 16-year-old Spearman Avenue boy was in stable condition in UPMC Horizon today, and police were looking for his assailant in a stabbing at Budd Street and New Castle Avenue. Witnesses told police Christopher Cordero got into an argument with an 18-year-old man that escalated into a shoving match shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. The assailant pulled out a knife or box cutter and slashed Cordero on the left side of the abdomen just below the rib cage. The man fled in a red car.
