COLUMBUS -- Intier Automotive Seating, which has received a contract to make seats for the new Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cobalt, is getting $250,000 from the state to buy machinery.
The State Controlling Board approved granting the money Monday. Further details weren't immediately available.
Intier makes car seats, interior components and latching systems. Intier of Novi, Mich., is building a new manufacturing facility in Vienna Township to supply General Motors' Lordstown Assembly Plant.
The $7.4 million project is expected to create at least 179 jobs within its first three years. Seats are now made by Lear Corp.'s plant in Lordstown.
Last month, the state granted Intier a 70 percent job creation tax credit against its corporate franchise taxes for nine years, a package worth $1.9 million.
The state also granted the company a $170,000 Ohio Investment and Training Program grant for worker training. Intier has to match the award dollar for dollar, state development department officials say.
