HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER Zunic's goals lead Canfield past Green

Nine Mooney players scored against Maplewood.
GREEN -- Whitney Zunic scored two goals and had an assist as the Canfield High girls soccer team blanked top-seeded Green 3-0 Saturday in a Division I sectional game.
Tia Norris of the Cardinals (6-7-5) scored the other goal on an assist by Zunic. Laura Hageman and Ashley Conti assisted on Zunic's goals.
Canfield had 10 shots on goal, while Green had 14.
Goalkeeper Megan Garland made 10 saves for the Cardinals. Amy Collett had seven saves for the Bulldogs (11-4-2).
Wednesday at 7 p.m., Canfield will host Fitch in the district semifinal.
In other games, Howland defeated Niles, 2-0, and North Canton Hoover won over Uniontown Lake, 2-0. In the other district semifinal, Hoover will play at Howland Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Division II
STRUTHERS -- Nine players scored goals as the Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team captured a sectional title by defeating Maplewood, 10-0.
Nine different players registered goals for the Cardinals. Marisa Simon led the way with two goals for the Cardinals (12-5-1).
Kelli Willis, Nomiki Frangopoulos, Kelly Burke, Colleen Zajac, Kara Joseph, Bridget Crogan, Kacie Kubik and Vickie Dreiling also scored.
Joseph chalked up two assists while Simon's assist gives her 19 on the season, which is third best among Div. II players and fourth best among all players in Ohio.
Also tallying assists were Kubik, Frangopoulos, Tina Sheridan, Jamie Matteo and Brittany Jones.
Cardinal goalkeeper Veronica Skowron made no saves in the first half while Natalie Humphreys made one in the second half as they combined for the team's 10th shutout.
Hubbard 1, Warren JFK 0
WARREN -- Midway through the second half, center-forward Christina Adams scored from about 7 yards out for Hubbard (10-8).
Lisa Jugenheimer assisted on the goal.
JFK (7-5-4) was seeded second.
Mooney will play at Hubbard Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Poland 5, Badger 0
POLAND -- Freshman Maureen Malone scored three goals for the Bulldogs (12-3-2). Britt Davis and Britt Dorbish netted the others.
Davis, Emily Sutcliffe, Liz Rothenberg and Krista Ginnetti had assists while goalkeepers Landry Yankle and Samantha Stanich each made two saves.
Badger (13-3-1) goalkeeper Kristen Smith made seven saves.
Tuesday at 7 p.m., Poland will be at home to play Champion (9-8-1) in a district semifinal.
Champion 2, Ursuline 1
CHAMPION -- With about five minutes remaining in the Div. II match, Carlie Dawson scored to snap a 1-1 tie.
Jolanta Carkido scored to give Ursuline (8-9-1) a 1-0 lead at the break.
Britney Skeels scored to knot the match.
West Branch 8,Garrettsville Garfield 1
BELOIT -- Anita Beegle and Ashley Kurena each scored two goals as unbeaten West Branch (12-0-5) won a sectional title.
Paige Stryfeler, Abbie Cronin, Niki Brown and Cassie Snoddy scored the Warriors' other goals. Kurena had three assists while goalkeepers Carlie Poffenberger and Cronin combined for nine saves.
Katie Etling scored for Garfield (8-9) while goalkeeper Krista Foy made 30 saves.
Tuesday at 7 p.m., second-seeded West Branch will be at home against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Boys
KENT -- The Austintown Fitch boys team lost to Kent Roosevelt, 2-1, in overtime.
Tuesday at 7 p.m., Kent Roosevelt will play at Boardman in a district semifinal.
