Browns waiveCB Jones
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns waived cornerback C.J. Jones and signed offensive lineman Craig Osika from the practice squad Friday
Osika, waived by San Francisco in August, was activated because of injuries to Cleveland's offensive line.
Jones was a undrafted rookie from Iowa, who made the Browns as a wide receiver and kick returner after an impressive training camp.
The Browns converted Jones into a cornerback after some injuries to their secondary. He was never activated for a game.
If Jones clears waivers, he could be signed to the Browns' practice squad.
Indians declineoption on Burks
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians on Friday declined to pick up the 2004 club options on Ellis Burks and Mark Wohlers, two aging veterans who missed most of last season with injuries.
Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said either player could be re-signed as a free agent.
"They are guys we'd like to keep the door open for," Shapiro said. "We've expressed to both players the hope that we can find a way."
Burks and Wohlers are eligible to become free agents and begin negotiating with teams two weeks after the World Series ends.
Wohlers, 33, missed all of last season after two elbow operations. The right-hander was 3-4 with a 4.79 ERA in team-high 64 games in 2002.
The Indians also signed backup catcher Tim Laker for 2004, avoiding arbitration. Laker hit .241 with 21 RBIs.

The high rating came one night after Wednesday's seventh game win by Florida over the Cubs in the NLCS drew a 16.9 rating.
