AUBURN, Ala. -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team shot just 28.6 percent from the field and fell to Auburn, the 25th-ranked team in the country, 67-36, Tuesday at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum.
Trailing 2-0 early in the first half, redshirt junior Cathy Hanek, who led YSU with 16 points, gave the Penguins their only lead of the game with a 3-pointer at the 18:30 mark of the first stanza.
The Tigers (3-1), who forced 22 YSU turnovers, used an 11-0 run to take a 13-3 lead at the 14:27 mark and never looked back.
The Penguins (1-1) were able to cut the deficit to seven points, 15-8, at the 9:02 mark after a jumper by Ashlee Russo, but would not come any closer.
Youngstown State shot just 23.8 percent in the first half and turned the ball over 12 times before halftime.
Hanek, who also dished out four assists and grabbed four rebounds, tied a career-high with four 3-pointers.
