Friday, November 28, 2003

WARREN -- A concerned mother helped city and Champion Township police officers recover close to $30,000 worth of stolen equipment.
Police Chief Dennis Steinbeck of Champion said that a mother came to his department early Wednesday because her daughter had come home with car stereo equipment.
The 17-year-old girl told her mother that she and a friend were with four men who broke into several cars late Tuesday evening.
The cars were in Champion, Steinbeck said. The girl and her friend confessed to police.
"The men that the girls were with lived in Warren, so I called the city officers and they went to the home," Steinbeck said.
Once at the house, officers were able to recover car stereo equipment and other merchandise, including tires.
The case is still being investigated, but no charges have been filed.
