Project unites voices of those who have served

Sunday, November 23, 2003

The Department of Veterans Affairs is joining forces with the National Foundation for Women Legislators, the Disabled American Veterans organization and the Library of Congress to raise awareness about the Veterans History Project.
That project is compiling the oral histories of America's wartime veterans.
With about 1,100 World War II veterans dying each day, team leaders and elected officials from every state will focus on interviewing World War II veterans through Feb. 24, 2004.
After that, teams will interview veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf Wars, the war on terrorism and all other conflicts.
Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000, and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress is preserving audio and video histories, along with materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs and home movies.
Veterans who want to participate may call (202) 707-4916 sign on the Web site loc.gov/folklife/vets.
