Three pupils expelled by unanimous school board votes

Friday, November 21, 2003

SHARON, Pa. -- The Sharon City School Board voted to expel three pupils but gave limited details of the cases involved. The expulsion votes Monday were unanimous with two school directors absent.
One pupil was expelled for the remainder of this school year for assaulting a school-district employee. Atty. Mark Longietti, school board solicitor, said the employee was pushed by a pupil but wasn't injured.
That pupil will be allowed to re-enter Sharon schools at the beginning of the 2004-05 school year after a "meeting of understanding" with the parent/guardian, pupil and school administration.
A second pupil was expelled for violation of the district's weapons policy, but Longietti wouldn't reveal what type of weapon was involved or if anyone was threatened.
That pupil can re-enter school beginning with this year's second semester or even sooner at the administration's discretion.
A third pupil was expelled for the remainder of this school year for having excessive absences.
That pupil can return at the beginning of the 2004-05 school year after a meeting with the parent/guardian, pupil and administration.
Longietti declined to reveal the ages or gender of the pupils.
In other business, the board accepted the retirement resignation of Ralph Trenga, supervisor of buildings and grounds, effective March 12, 2004.
Trenga has worked for the district for 181/2 years.
