Schedules needed
The Vindicator needs winter schedules from the following schools: Salem, Struthers, Alliance, Canfield, Niles, Mineral Ridge, Lowellville, Springfield, Mathews, Western Reserve, Hubbard, Newton Falls, Champion, Columbiana, LaBrae, Columbiana, Lisbon, East Palestine, Southern and East Liverpool.
Jen Hlebovy topnewcomer in NCAC
HIRAM -- Jen Hlebovy, a freshman outside hitter for the Hiram College volleyball team from Boardman High, was named North Coast Athletic Conference newcomer of the year.
Hlebovy led Hiram in digs, and had 20 or more digs in four matches and double figures in 21 outings.
Hiram's Shana Toth and Charity Norman both were named to the All-NCAC team, and coach Ellen Dempsey was named coach of the year.
Beth Tireyplaces in top 10
AMARILLO, Texas -- Beth Tirey of North Lima finished in the top 10 in the amateur 3-year-old gelding class at the American Quarter Horse Association world championship.
Her horse is RL Arts Time, a sorrell gelding.
The event is considered the largest horse show with nearly $2.3 million awarded to 3,551 entries from 47 states and several countries.
Jr. Phantoms fall
BOARDMAN -- The Youngstown Junior Phantoms lost to Strongsville, 7-6, Sunday.
Christopher Shannon scored four goals for the Phantoms, while Matt Lacko and Stan Miketa each had one.
Roadrunnersto hold race Saturday
CANFIELD -- The Youngstown Road Runners Club Pre-Turkey Trot race will be held at the Canfield Fairgrounds Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
Registration for the 5K race will be at the Second Sole on Friday from noon until 7 p.m.

NFL party
WARREN -- The Blessed Sacrament Parish Heart Walk will put on a Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers party Sunday, beginning at noon.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association's Heart Walk.

Vertanen citedby league
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Volleyball player Jill Vertanen, a graduate of Canfield High, was named Rookie of the Week by the American East Conference for her play at the University of Hartford.
Vertanen hit .333 in two victories. She had a career-high 10 kills in a win over Binghamton and nine kills in a decision over UMBC.
Hartford ended the season 10-20 and 2-12 in the AEC.
Justin Napotnik named by PAC
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College senior tailback Justin Napotnik, a native of Sharpsville, was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office Monday after his record-setting performance in the Tomcats' 31-28 victory at Kenyon College Saturday.
Napotnik set two single-game records with 39 carries for 225 yards in leading the Tomcats to the 31-28 non-conference win at Kenyon.
He broke the existing single-game rushing mark of 207 yards, set by Bob Witherup in 1971, and the single-game carries record of 35, set by Kevin Jones in 1991. Napotnik also threw his first collegiate touchdown, a 7-yard strike to Shaun Jackson.
Napotnik finished his career with 2,188 rushing yards, good for third place on the Thiel career charts. He also finished third in career carries with 495.
Thiel all-conference
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Four members of the Thiel College women's soccer team were awarded with Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) All-Conference accolades, led by junior Katie Mound (Southeast High), who earned her third straight first team selection.
Junior forward Laura Simonetti was selected to the second team, while sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Dunsmore and freshman midfielder Holly Schaefer were named honorable mention selections.

* SALT LAKE CITY -- Doc Rivers was fired as coach of the Orlando Magic after the team got off to the worst start in its 15-year history.
The Magic are an NBA-worst 1-10 this season and have lost 10 consecutive games.
* NEW YORK -- Maurice Taylor's suspension was reduced to six games by the NBA, and the players' union withdrew its grievance over the penalty.
NHL moves
* DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Jon Klemm and a fourth-round pick in next year's draft in a trade with Chicago. The Blackhawks received defenseman Stephane Robidas and a second-round pick.
* RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina Hurricanes left wing Jeff Daniels retired, ending a 12-year NHL career in which he played on the Pittsburgh Penguins' Stanley Cup championship team in 1992.
