Medical society and alliance honor Kathy Dwinnels as 'gem'



CANFIELD -- Kathy Dwinnels received the Gem of the Year award during a meeting March 28 of the Mahoning County Medical Society and Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance at Tippecanoe Country Club.
Dwinnels, the wife of Dr. Ron Dwinnels, has served as president, vice president and secretary of the alliance, and also developed its yearbook. The mother of five children, she is involved in other community organizations such as the Red Cross, Youngstown Symphony Guild, Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine and the Elizabeth Ministry at St. Charles Church.
Dwinnels, who has a master's degree in nursing in maternal child nursing, teaches at Kent State University and also teaches cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid to community groups.
Heidi Boeing and Ann Might were chairwomen of the event, which featured an international dinner.
The annual Doctor's Day also was celebrated.
