2 women head to grand jury in elder attack

Friday, March 21, 2003

NILES -- Two Niles women accused of assaulting an 84-year-old woman and stealing her purse have been bound over to the Trumbull County grand jury.
Aubrey Console Holbrook, 26, 125 Butler St., and Doris Hodge, 24, 11 Circle St., waived their right to preliminary hearings on felonious assault charges Monday in separate appearances in Niles Municipal Court.
The two are accused of attacking Stella Skeiski in the parking lot of Macali's Giant Eagle, Vienna Avenue, last week.
Police say the women knocked Skeiski to the ground as she attempted to get into her car. Skeiski lost two teeth and required stitches at a local hospital. Police identified Holbrook and Hodge through a security camera tape from the store.
Holbrook and Hodge remain in jail under $25,000 bond each.
Holbrook also waived her right to a preliminary hearing on a theft charge filed last week by her mother-in-law, Mary, who told prosecutors the woman stole checks from her and had someone else cash them.
