YSU New union contract

Sunday, June 29, 2003

The three-year labor agreement between Youngstown State University and the Association of Professional and Administrative Staff grants 3-percent-per-year raises to those holding midlevel, nonsupervisory positions (such as counselors, academic advisers, librarians, student activities specialists and computer center employees).
Employees in the union would also earn 1-percent pay bonuses if YSU's full-time enrollment jumps to 10,680. It was 10,171 last fall.
APAS staff members work nine, 10 or 12 months of the year.
The university will continue to pay for health insurance premiums. Monthly health insurance premium costs for employees in an HMO plan are $362 single and $833 family. For those in a traditional plan, the university is self-insured and pays all claims; monthly cost of a premium for the traditional insurance would be $320 single and $839 family. These rates include health care, vision, dental and prescription coverage.
The contract allows salaries ranging from $21,000 for an entry-level housing coordinator to $85,000 for a database administrator with maximum experience who has been employed by the university for several years. Vice President for Administration John Habat said it is rare that employees reach that level.
