Lakeview schools hiresfirm to find more funds
CORTLAND -- Lakeview school officials aren't anticipating any problems with next year's budget, but they expressed frustration Monday at not having any excess money.
Superintendent Matthew Chojnacki said the "bare-bones budget" means the school cannot buy new technology or upgrade computers.
The school has cut costs by consolidating bus routes and reorganizing Cortland and Bazetta elementary schools.
The board voted Monday to work with Varanese and Associates, a consulting and law firm, which will help the school district find more funding.
The board also reinstated four of five teachers who were cut at an earlier meeting. Two of the teachers will work at Bazetta Elementary, one at the middle school and one at the high school.

Judge Mark Frost granted the request and set a hearing for 3 p.m. July 21.
Walker, who is free on bond, was charged June 11 by the Lisbon patrol post after he was stopped on state Route 11.
The Cortland man, who was off duty at the time, has pleaded innocent.

The term ends March 2008.
Ozone alert in Valley
AUSTINTOWN -- The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments says ozone levels may worsen today through Thursday in the Mahoning Valley, irritating eyes and lungs, especially among those with respiratory conditions, and damaging crops.
Eastgate is asking Valley residents to avoid filling their cars or using gas-powered lawn mowers until after 7 p.m., as well as to carpool, to help combat ozone creation.
Rain later in the week should alleviate the problem.
