Tremaine Brown is accused of shooting his girlfriend in Campbell.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police have arrested a 24-year-old Florencedale Avenue man in the shooting death of his girlfriend in her car.
Tremaine Brown, 24, is charged with murder. He was to be arraigned today in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Charge
Police said he shot Tawonna Thomas, 21, of Stansbury Drive on Wednesday in the back seat of her car outside of her apartment.
Brown was arrested by members of the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force about 1:45 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Gordon Avenue in Campbell. The task force had received an anonymous tip that Brown was in thatarea.
Gordon Avenue is a few blocks north of Jean Street, where Thomas' car was found after she was shot.
How it began
Police said Brown and Thomas had an argument inside Thomas' apartment before the shooting. She grabbed a blanket and went outside to sleep in her car, police said.
A witness told police that Brown followed her outside, pulled a semiautomatic pistol out of his pocket and pointed it toward the car. Brown tried to fire the gun, but it didn't go off, the witness told police.
Brown then walked up to the car, continuing to argue with Thomas and shot her, police said. Police found a large-caliber shell casing, possibly a .45-caliber, near the victim's body.
