Homeland Security awards fire departments

CHICAGO -- Michael D. Brown, undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security, announced Friday that the agency was awarding $41,575 to the fire department in Boardman and the Chester volunteer fire department in Long Bottom, located along the Ohio River in southeast Ohio.
Meanwhile, Tom Ridge, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, made a quick stop at the Trumbull Township Fire Department and brought two government checks with him.
Ridge was in Northeast Ohio to present two Ashtabula County fire departments with government's Response Enhancement Fire Grants to purchase equipment, including trucks. The Trumbull Township Volunteer Fire Department received a check for $148,500, and the Geneva Fire Department received an $87,000 grant.
The two grants are part of a $750 million governmental program for fire departments.
