hBooks focus on plantsthat do well in Ohio
What flourishes in Albuquerque may fall flat in Ohio.
That's why gardening books geared to specific regions are so helpful. Two of the newest are "Annuals for Ohio" and "Perennials for Ohio," which help gardeners choose and maintain plants that have the best chance of thriving in our state.
In the books, horticulturist and garden consultant Debra Knapke and garden writer Alison Beck give readers a quick overview on the basics of growing flowers, including preparing the garden, selecting plants and dealing with pests and other problems.
The largest part of the books, however, is devoted to information on plants suitable for Ohio's climate.
The books are published by Lone Pine Publishing and are available at nurseries, independent bookstores and Barnes & amp; Noble stores. Each is $18.95.
Hanging wallpaperwithout all the mess
Forget the soaking and the booking and the dripping. A new type of wallcovering makes the process of hanging wallpaper easier and neater. The wallcovering is hung dry after paste has been applied to a primed wall. It has a nonwoven substrate, so it won't expand, shrink or separate at the seams. When it's time to redecorate, it can be stripped easily without the addition of water or chemicals.
One company producing the wallpaper is Cleveland's Imperial Home Decor Group, whose Imperial Visions Metropolitan Collection uses a substrate called EasyLife. Suggested retail prices are $32 to $38 per single roll, with borders ranging from $31.99 to $37.99 for a 15-foot spool. To find a nearby dealer, call (800) 539-5399 or visit www.ihdg.com.
Another manufacturer is Eisenhart Wallcoverings Co., which uses a similar system called Paperez in its Terrazzo collection. Suggested retail price is $34.99 a single roll. Visit www.eisenhartwallcoverings.com or call (800) 931-9255 for a dealer.
