Pittsburgh's Great Rideshowcases 1,700 cyclists
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- More than 1,700 riders took to the streets as part of an annual bike tour of the Steel City. Among the cyclists were: toddlers with training wheels, a couple on a tandem bicycle that they were married on, and a clown on a unicycle.
Three-year-old Ben Winslow was among the youngest who participated in Pittsburgh's Great Ride on Sunday.
Also riding through the city's neighborhoods was Samson Gruss, 46, of Portage, also known as Unicycle Sam. Gruss said his five-mile ride was much shorter than his best -- 12 miles without stopping.
And then there were Cindy and Alan Patterson, both 39, of Pittsburgh, who have been biking for the past 14 years and who were married on a tandem bicycle four years ago. They rode the tandem bike on Sunday.
"We decided we needed to stay closer," Alan Patterson said.
"He decided I was too slow," his wife added.
