AWARDS MVRS holds rose show at Mill Creek MetroParks

The event took place at Fellows Riverside Gardens.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Rose Society held a rose show June 22 at Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks.
Dr. Gary Barlow and Dr. Lewis Shupe, American Rose Society accredited judges, served as judges for the event, and chairwoman was Pat Martinec.
The following prizes were awarded by the society :
URichard Anthony: Queen of show, king of show, court of honor, mini queen of show, mini king of show, mini court of honor, sweepstakes winner, best hybrid tea spray, best grandiflora spray, best hybrid tea full-blown, best hybrid tea rose bowl, best mini spray and best mini full-blown.
UWarren Knopp: Princess of show and mini court of honor.
URichard Stromberg: Mini princess, best single bloom floribunda, best climber, best classic shrub, best single-petaled rose and best mini matched pair.
UMartinec: Elizabeth Fellows trophy and best modern shrub.
UAnna Margaret Hamilton: Best old garden rose.
URoxxanne Macynski: Dowager queen.
UAlice Sassone: Richard Stromberg trophy.
UMeredith Davison: Best children's entry.
UJon Hendricks: Mini court of honor, best mini rose bowl.
UShirley Megown: Best arrangement.
Serving on the committee for the event were Anthony, Hamilton, Martinec, Megown and Stromberg, program and awards; Richard Smith, placement; Norma McMahon, registration; Hamilton, certificates; Anthony, Randy Leyshow and Megown, clerks; Joan Lozier and Hendricks, photography; and Sharon Mika, publicity.
