Commissioners re-evaluate cell phone use

Sunday, July 27, 2003

WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners will re-examine their decision to get rid of employee cell phones, Commissioner Joseph J. Angelo said.
Commissioners were asked to revisit the policy by 911 director Tim Gladis, who said that he and others made extensive use of their personal cell phones when the 911 center was flooded.
"Without them, we would have been absolutely paralyzed," he said.
Don Waldron, head of the county Haz-Mat team, said he has logged $200 worth of work-related calls on his personal cell phone since Monday.
He said he intended to apply for reimbursement through the state.
Some officials whose departments get money from sources other than the county have been able to keep cell phones in their budgets.
"The county is not paying for any cell phones now," Angelo said. "We will sit back and look at the policy."
