Helle will play
GIRARD -- Dustin Helle, a Girard High graduate, two-time all-state and Trumbull County Player of the Year will continue his career at Youngstown State.
He holds six Girard High records including career receptions (128), career TD receptions (28), career receiving yards (2,689), single-season TD receptions (15), single-season receiving yards (1,200) and all-purpose yards (4,876).

Golf scramble
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Lifetime Television/Y-103/The Cable Guy Golf Scramble is set Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. at Tam O'Shanter Golf Course.
Teams consist of two men and two women.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society offices in Mahoning and Mercer counties.
Cost is $70 per person and $280 per team. Cost includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, dinner, refreshments and auction. Non-golfers can eat and attend the auction for $9.

Tryout
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates will sponsor an open tryout camp Wednesday at 9 a.m. at PNC Park. Registraiton begins at 8 a.m. and players should report to the Home Plate entrance of the ballpark.
Any individual 16 or older is invited to attend. American Legion team members must have written permission from their coach or Legion Post Commander. Players drafted by any major league club in June are not eligible.
Particpants must bring their own uniform, glove and shoes. Catchers must bring their own gear. All other equipment will be provided by the Pirates.
Titans swimmingearn academic honors
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster's swimming program was recently named a Division III Academic All-American Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The team compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.245 in the spring 2003 semester.
G-Unit wins tourney
AUSTINTOWN -- G-Unit of Austintown won the Pittsburgh "Go Deep" Flag Football Tournament recently. Members were: Dallas Root, John Grover, Chad Lewis, T.J. Parker, Bobby Mortan and Mike Janis. G-Unit advanced by winning the League of Champions summer season.
Morgan loses
HYANNIS, Mass. -- Veteran boxer Lenzie Morgan lost a disputed six-round decision to Courage Tshabalala Friday night.
This was a third heavyweight fight for the 37-year-old Morgan, a Youngstown resident who trains at the Buckeye Elks.
Tshabalala (26-3), from Africa and fighting out of Camden, N.J., where he is managed and trained by Lou Duva, had a 22-pound weight advantage and used it well in the first three rounds, taking Morgan to the ropes and hitting him with power punches.
Morgan (14-25-3), who fought most of his pro fights as a middleweight and lightheavyweight, landed quick combinations that stopped Tshabalala in the latter two rounds.
The final tallies by the three judges gave a split decision verdict to Tshabalala, with two judges voting 58-56 and 59-55 for him and the other judge voting 59-55 for Morgan.
Ohio beats Pa.
HERSHEY, Pa. -- Breaking a three-year losing streak, high school football stars from Ohio beat their Pennsylvania counterparts 38-7 in the Big 33 Classic Saturday night.
Ohio raced out to a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdowns in the first four minutes of the game.
The first score came when quarterback Ben Mauk of Kenton hit Ryne Robinson of Toledo on a 20-yard corner route.
James Addington of Findlay kicked the extra point to give Ohio a 7-0 lead just 54 seconds into the game.
Ohio made it 14-0 on its next series when Mauk took a high snap, pulled it down and ran untouched 20 yards for another score. The lead was increased to 21-0 when Mauk threw a 13-yard TD pass to Robinson in the second quarter.
Ohio scored for the fourth time when Justin Valentine punched in a short run from the 2. Addington converted his fourth straight extra point.
The lead was extended to 31-0 when Addington hit a 23-yard field goal at the 5:30 mark in the third quarter.
A 17-yard touchdown run by Bethlehem Catholic's Adam Bednarik with 4:48 to play ended Ohio's chance to post the first shutout in the series' 11-year history.
Ohio scored again with 38 seconds remaining in the game when Michael Daniels ran a draw 20 yards for the score.

Walker charged
NEWARK -- Free-agent forward Samaki Walker was charged with drunken driving after an accident earlier this month.
Walker, who spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, lost control of his vehicle about 20 miles east of Columbus on July 9, highway patrol dispatcher Pat Snelling said.
U.S. beats Slovenia
THESSALONIKI, Greece -- Michigan State forward Paul Davis scored 20 points Saturday, leading the United States past Slovenia 77-72 in the playoffs at the World Junior Basketball Championships.
The Americans will play Puerto Rico for fifth place today. Puerto Rico beat Turkey 85-78.

* Free-agent guard Antonio Daniels signed a multiyear deal with the Seattle SuperSonics on Saturday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
* The Los Angeles Clippers retained All-Star forward Elton Brand on Saturday by matching an offer sheet he signed with the Miami Heat earlier this week.
* The Boston Celtics re-signed veteran forward Walter McCarty to a multiyear contract Saturday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bucs sign two
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Kicker Ralf Kleinmann and quarterback Shane Stafford signed one-year contracts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday.
Kleinmann has spent seven seasons kicking for NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy. Stafford is a former Arena Football League quarterback who played for the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe this year.
Wagner, Bartkowski tied for lead
STATELINE, Nev. -- Actor Jack Wagner had seven birdies in a 30-point round Saturday for a share of the lead with Steve Bartkowski in the American Century celebrity golf championship.
