SCRAPPERS Losing streak reaches 6 games

Tuesday, July 22, 2003

Ryan Goleski hit his second home run of the season.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- A change of scenery did nothing for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
After losing three games at Batavia earlier this week, the Scrappers fell again Friday, this time 5-4 to the Jamestown Jammers at Russell Diethrick Park.
The Scrappers' biggest losing streak of the season reached six games and dropped them under .500 at 15-16.
Jamestown (6-25) scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on Ryan Blake's RBI single and Ben Schroeder's RBI groundout, making a winner out of Carl Primus (1-0).
Mahoning Valley couldn't hold leads of 3-1 and 4-3, dropping Matt Davis, who relieved starter Juan Lara, to 2-3 this season.
Offensive attack
The Scrappers' offense produced 10 hits, two each by Mike Conroy, Brad Snyder and Ceasar Suarez.
Ryan Goleski hit his second home run of the season.
The solo shot led off the sixth inning and put the Scrappers ahead 4-3.
But that lead was short-lived.
The Scrappers loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning, but Anthony Lunetta flied out to end the threat.
Before returning home Monday, the Scrappers will play two more games against Jamestown, attempting to snap a skid that has dropped them nine games behind Pinckney Division-leading Auburn.
