LEETONIA -- Police have filed criminal mischief charges against four area juveniles aged 14 to 16 in the recent vandalism of Wick Park.
"The residents have been coooperative, and we got some good information," Chief John Soldano said. "We're not done yet, but we've scratched the surface, and we're happy with the progress."
Soldano said he hopes residents will continue to assist police.
"We're doing some extra patrols in the area, and we hope residents who live near the park will help us keep an eye out for trouble," he said.
Village officials asked residents for help to stop the vandalism after new picnic tables and trash cans placed at Wick Park June 20 were almost immediately vandalized. The vandals carved graffiti into one of the new handicapped-accessible picnic tables, punched holes in new trash cans, and used benches for skate board ramps.
The village purchased the picnic tables, benches and trash cans with state grants.
