Residents have the choice of using individual garbage bags or large garbage bins.
SHARON, Pa. -- Residents of Sharon, Farrell and Hermitage who plan to make use of garbage bins provided by the new garbage/recycling hauler for those three municipalities must call the company to get a bin delivered.
The three municipalities jointly bid their garbage/recycling service, and Tri-County Industries of Grove City was the low bidder.
Tri-County is to take over from Waste Management of Pennsylvania effective Feb. 1, but people who are using Waste Management's 90-gallon garbage bins, commonly referred to as toters, can't use them with Tri-County.
Finance Director Michael Gasparich said people should call Tri-County to arrange to have a new, 95-gallon bin delivered in time for the new contract.
The rate will be $11.41 per month, which includes the cost of weekly recycling material pickups as well as unlimited trash and garbage pickup each week.
Each municipality will provide a smaller recycling bin purchased through the Mercer County Solid Waste Authority.
Can use plastic bags
People who don't want the large garbage bin can continue to use special plastic garbage bags which cost $1.84 each and are available at the Farrell and Hermitage municipal buildings, D'Onofrio's Market, Giant Eagle and Shop N' Save, all in Hermitage, or South Side Market in Masury.
The bag cost also covers weekly recycling pickups using bins provided by each municipality.
