MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE Tarver paces Akron past Ball State

AKRON -- Derrick Tarver scored 33 points, including a pair of crucial free throws, as Akron beat Ball State 105-104 in overtime Saturday.
Tarver was 4-for-4 on free throws in the last two minutes and also made a lay-up, scoring six of Akron's last 10 points. He hit two free throws to make it 105-99 before Mark Farris hit a layup, stole the in-bounds pass and made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it 105-104. Farris scored five of his seven points in the last two seconds.
The Zips (6-4, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) outscored the Cardinals (5-6, 0-1 MAC) 6-2 to start overtime and made 8-of-11 free throws in the last 2:13 of the game. Tarver made 4-of-4, John Hollingsworth made 3-of-5 and Darryl Peterson hit 1-of-2.
Chris Williams scored 48 points for Ball State. He made 14-of-23 from the field and 16-of-17 free throws, but didn't score in the last two minutes. Matt McCollom had 17 points for Ball State and Cameron Echols had 14. Four Ball State players, including Echols and McCollom, fouled out.
Hollingsworth and Peterson had 21 points for Akron, Rob Preston had 13 and Andy Hipsher had 10 points.
No. 20 Kentucky 83, Ohio 75
CINCINNATI -- Keith Bogans scored 21 points and Erik Daniels repeatedly made clutch baskets down the stretch as No. 20 Kentucky wasted most of a 19-point lead before beating Ohio 83-75 on Saturday.
Daniels, who grew up in Cincinnati and had about 60 relatives and friends in the stands, had two dunks, a layup and a put-back that helped Kentucky (9-3) hold off a late charge.
Ohio (3-6) cut a 19-point deficit to 78-75 on Brian Hunter's inside basket with 55 seconds left. Daniels then missed a shot, got a rebound and put it in, ending the Bobcats' comeback. Bogans' three-point play with nine seconds left finished it off.
Daniels had 14 points, and Gerald Fitch added 12.
Sonny Johnson led Ohio with 24 points, and Hunter and Steve Esterkamp -- two Cincinnati prep players -- each had 18 points in their homecomings.
Miami (Ohio) 71, Cent. Mich. 62
OXFORD, Ohio -- Juby Johnson scored 19 points and Tim Schenke had 18, and Miami of Ohio held Central Michigan scoreless for the final three minutes to beat the Chippewas 71-62 Saturday.
Chris Kaman had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Central Michigan (7-3, 0-1 MAC).
Bowling Green 64, N. Illinois 63
DEKALB, Ill. -- Cory Eyink made a layup with 6.5 seconds left as Bowling Green hung on to beat Northern Illinois.
John Reimold had 18 points and nine rebounds for Bowling Green (6-4, 2-0).
Smallwood had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies (4-8, 0-2).
