Police investigatefatal 3-car crash
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- State police continue to investigate a three-car crash that killed a New Castle man.
Police said Guy J. Marcantino, 57, of 310 W. Cherry St. was killed about 1:45 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Route 422 in Pulaski Township.
Vlad C. Ursu, 20, of Youngstown escaped injury.
The driver of the third vehicle, Samuel Adam Maize, 36, of 915 N. Ashland Ave., New Castle, was treated at Jameson Hospital.
Police don't know yet how the crash happened.
Leetonia runs shortof salt for roads
LEETONIA -- Village officials are advising residents that the streets department has just about run out of road salt as a result of the particularly severe weather this snow season.
Officials note that they are using remaining salt supplies sparingly, which will likely result in more slippery streets than residents may be used to.
Meshel to speak
SALEM -- Former state Sen. Harry Meshel will be the guest speaker at the Salem Central Committee Democratic Dinner.
The event, which is open to the public, will be April 6 at Timberlanes Inn & amp; Restaurant, 544 E. Pershing St., Salem.

SRU seminar canceled
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Today's seminar on the "Future Acquisition Processes for Doing Business with DLA," sponsored by Slippery Rock University's Center for Economic and Community Development, has been canceled.

Wounded by gunfire
YOUNGSTOWN -- Charles E. Hanlon, 61, of Southern Boulevard was in guarded condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center with eight gunshot wounds.
Hanlon called 911 about 3:30 a.m. today, saying he was shot in the head and chest, police said. Police found Hanlon sitting on his bed. The victim told police that he opened a side door and let in two men he knows, one of whom opened fire.
The suspects then fled to a car parked on East Philadelphia Avenue. No motive was given for the shooting.
Police said they collected a crack pipe and small bags used for distribution of crack cocaine in the bedroom where Hanlon had been shot.
Austintown outage
AUSTINTOWN -- A total of 5,193 Ohio Edison customers were without power Monday morning after equipment failed on a power line near Meridian Road and Interstate 680. Power was out from 7:23 a.m. to 10:48 a.m.
Many of the traffic lights on state Route 46 and the western portion of Mahoning Avenue were off during the outage. Austintown police said they had no reports of accidents due to the traffic light problems.
Paul Harkey, Ohio Edison's Mahoning County manager, said a 40-pound piece of equipment had to be hauled up an 80-foot tall power pole to fix the problem.
Ohio Edison is investigating to determine what caused the outage. Harkey noted that similar outages recently occurred in Poland and the Cleveland area.
Body found in car
HOWLAND -- The police and fire departments are investigating the death of a person found in a burning vehicle.
Firefighters were called to a motor vehicle fire at Terrace North Condominiums, 2500 North Road, around 10:48 p.m. Sunday.
They discovered the body.
The Trumbull County Corner's Office was called.
