COLUMBUS -- Marc Denis stopped 38 shots and rookie Rick Nash provided the only goal. It was the first time the Blue Jackets had ever won a 1-0 game. The shutout was Denis' third of the year and seventh of his career. He faced 19 shots in the first two periods and 19 in the third as the Sharks turned up the pressure.
Senators 3, Penguins 0
PITTSBURGH -- Toni Dahlman scored his first NHL goal and Patrick Lalime stopped 20 shots for his sixth shutout of the season. Marian Hossa, the NHL's second-leading goal scorer, and Chris Neil also scored for the Senators, who moved within one point of Dallas for the league's overall points lead. Facing his former team, Lalime was rarely tested while playing for the first time since sitting out two games with the flu. Only Toronto's Ed Belfour and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur (seven) have more shutouts this season.
Rangers 3, Panthers 1
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Sandy McCarthy scored his second goal of the season late in the second period and Mike Dunham made 27 saves as the Rangers snapped a seven-game winless streak. Alexei Kovalev, acquired from Pittsburgh in an eight-player trade Monday, scored an empty-net goal with 10.8 seconds left.
Capitals 5, Thrashers 1
ATLANTA -- Led by Jaromir Jagr, the Capitals scored five goals in the first period and cruised. The Capitals had five goals on their first eight shots against goalie Byron Dafoe, who was booed lustily by the Philips Arena crowd before he was replaced by Pasi Nurminen at the start of the second period.
Maple Leafs 3, Blackhawks 1
CHICAGO -- Alyn McCauley, Jyrki Lumme and Tie Domi scored in a 4:55 span early in the first period. Ed Belfour made 32 saves as Toronto won for the sixth time in its last seven games (6-1-0).
Wild 2, Flyers 0
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Dwayne Roloson made 31 saves as the Wild shut out the punchless Flyers for the second straight game. Cliff Ronning and Wes Walz scored for the Wild, who beat the Flyers 1-0 Monday night behind 30 saves from Manny Fernandez. It marked the first time in the Wild's three-year history they had consecutive shutouts.
Devils 3, Coyotes 0
PHOENIX -- Martin Brodeur had 18 saves for his seventh shutout this season and 62nd of his career. Brodeur (31-16-3) edged closer to his seventh consecutive 35-win season. No other goalie has had more than three straight.
Mighty Ducks 4, Flames 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Steve Rucchin set up Mike Leclerc's goal 10 seconds into overtime with his third assist. The Mighty Ducks set an obscure NHL record: Anaheim's last 10 victories all have been by one goal. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that breaks the mark set by the first Ottawa Senators franchise during the 1926-27 season.
