Man found naked at fire
BROOKFIELD -- Police and fire officials will get together to determine if charges will be filed against a man they found naked after fire broke out in his residence.
Township Police Chief Daniel Faustino said flames broke out Tuesday afternoon in the house Jeffrey Kaiser, 32, rents at 8211 Ulp Road.
The chief said Kaiser was on the porch naked and didn't want firefighters to put out the flames.
He was taken to Sharon Regional Health System for observation and treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
Faustino said the flames were confined to the kitchen. Faustino said damage has not been estimated.
Pay raises approved
BROOKFIELD -- Township trustees have approved 25-cent-an-hour pay raises for part-time emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
Trustee Gary Lees said paramedics will see an increase from $8.25 to $8.50 and the EMT hourly rate increases from $7.75 to $8. There will be a wage reopener in six months.
Trustees increased the ambulance driver's hourly wage from $6.75 to $7.50 and hired Eric Gardner of Petersburg as a part-time firefighter/EMT at $6.75 an hour.
Lees said trustees have agreed to include themselves on the township Web site so residents can e-mail them.
Police probe theft
NILES -- Police are investigating the theft of more than $5,000 of materials from a local upholstery company.
Kopp Upholstery, 447 Cannon St., reported to police that a man was seen last week removing several items, including rolls of fabric, an answering machine, chairs, a sink, tools, a refrigerator and more.
The value was placed at $5,679.
Driver sought
HUBBARD -- Township police are looking for the driver who fled from a stolen vehicle early today.
Detective Mike Begeot said the car stolen from a Chestnut Ridge Road residence was spotted and stopped on Wick-Campbell Road, but the driver escaped.
Four others in a car trailing the stolen vehicle were being questioned today.
Openings in Hubbard
HUBBARD -- The township has an opening for an assistant clerk to the township zoning board and three vacancies for alternate board member.
No specific qualifications are required.

Sidewalk office hours
WARREN -- Councilman John Homlitas, D-3rd, will conduct sidewalk office hours beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Montclair Street Northeast and Garfield Drive Northeast.
Topics of discussion over the past few months have been neighborhood street improvements and parks, Homlitas said.
"Although Council has taken action to address both concerns, I'm always open to suggestions and ideas and find that this format of casual conversation has led to many worthwhile ideas and solutions," he said.
Humanitarian award
HOWLAND -- Ken Kramp, Go On Living For Fun coordinator at Forum Health Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, has received the Humanitarian of the Year award from the United States Golf Teachers Federation.
Kramp, of Warren, helped initiate the GOLFF program, which promotes golf for the person who is permanently or temporarily disabled.
Homecoming event
LORDSTOWN -- Lordstown Historical Society will discuss the annual homecoming event at its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Schoolhouse Museum on Salt Springs Road near the fire station.
The public is welcome to attend and to share memories and photos. Homecoming here began in 1919.
Facing rape charge
FARRELL, Pa. -- Police have charged Kirk D. White, 30, of Ormond Avenue, Sharon, with rape.
He is accused of assaulting a 15-year-old girl who had fallen asleep at a house party in the 100 block of Fruit Avenue on Saturday night.
He was arrested at home around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and is being held in Mercer County Jail on $50,000 bond.
