YSU Provost is named educator of year



Six other faculty and staff also were honored.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tony Atwater, Youngstown State University's provost and vice president for academic affairs, was selected educator of the year by the Omega Psi Phi fraternity's Psi Omicron chapter.
Atwater was honored at the fraternity's first James R. Lottier Sr. Achievement Week Banquet.
Also, Atwater's biography was recently chosen for publication in "Who's Who in American Education," and "Who's Who in America."
Other YSU faculty and staff recently receiving honors and making presentations include:
URaymond Beiersdorfer, geological and environmental sciences associate professor, received a $3,850 Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Education Fund grant for the Penguin Bowl, Ohio's and Pennsylvania's regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl.
UChristopher Bache, philosophy and religious studies professor, presented "Renewing the Psychedelic Conversation" at the Institute of Noetic Sciences conference in Palm Springs, Calif. He presented "Assessing the Evidence for Reincarnation," and an all-day workshop, "Rebirth and the Dynamics of the Soul" at the Noetic Marketplace in Minneapolis.
UTed Bosela, engineering and technology associate dean and professor, presented "America's Aging Workforce: Development of For-Credit Academic Programs to Address the Technological Changes in the Industry" at the second annual Aging Workforce Conference in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Bosela discussed the partnership between FirstEnergy and YSU that was developed to address aging-workforce issues in the utility industry.
UHaiyang Chen, Sheen Liu and Ronald Volpe, finance professors, presented "Financial Literacy Among Employees: Perspectives from Benefit Professionals" at the Academy of Financial Services 2003 annual meeting in Denver.
UDavid E. Stout, accounting and finance Andrews Endowed Chairman, co-presented "Comprehensive Literature Review: Factors Influencing Choice of Accounting as a Major" at the Academy of Business Education's fourth annual conference in San Francisco.
UH.W. Shawn Kim, mechanical and industrial engineering chair and professor, was invited to attend the 2003 National Fluid Power Association Education Summit in Indianapolis. He discussed the development of a hydraulics program in engineering and technology at YSU.
