TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS Renberg is expected to miss 3 games

The team's forward went home to Sweden on family business.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikael Renberg returned home to Sweden to attend to undisclosed family issues and is expected to miss three games.
The announcement was made by the team on Friday, shortly before its 6-5 overtime victory over the New York Rangers.
"He's gone home to deal with some family matters," coach Pat Quinn said. "Nothing bad, no deaths. It's just something we've talked about back to September.
"It was talked about, it was planned and now was the time to go," Quinn added.
Renberg had played well against the Rangers recently, recording four goals and two assists in three games over a 14-day span -- all Toronto victories.
Offense not missed
His offense wasn't missed on Friday as the Maple Leafs stretched their point streak to 16 games (14-0-1-1).
Renberg will be away for road games against the New York Islanders on Saturday and Florida on Monday. The left wing has six goals and seven assists in 27 games this season.
He is expected to return for the game at Boston on Jan. 1.
The status of two other Maple Leafs wasn't as clear following the win over the Rangers.
Goalie Trevor Kidd, in just his third game this season, injured his groin when he made a side-to-side move 8 minutes into the second period. He was able to finish out the period, but was then replaced by Ed Belfour to start the third.
The Maple Leafs were ahead 5-2 with 1:54 left in the second, but the lead was only one goal when Belfour took over.
"I wouldn't consider them bad goals after I tweaked my groin," said Kidd, who was out for the first 24 games due to a right shoulder injury.
Playing status
Kidd would like to be available to dress against the Islanders, but said he wouldn't know if he could until Saturday.
He described the injury as a spasm that got more uncomfortable as he continued to play. Kidd alerted Belfour with about 5 minutes remaining in the period that he wouldn't be able to go on in the third.
"I was hoping to give them a 5-2 lead, but it was 5-4 when he got in," Kidd said.
Toronto's other injury was to forward Robert Reichel, who was hit by Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis as he reached for the puck. Reichel had his left arm in a sling as he left Madison Square Garden and said he had his shoulder popped back into place.
