Director/producer Ron Howard, whose current projects include the Fox sitcom "Arrested Development," is profiled on "Biography" (8 p.m., A & amp;E). After many years in the spotlight as a young actor, starting with "The Andy Griffith Show," Howard moved behind the camera without missing a beat (or, it would seem, a paycheck).
The biggest surprise of RKO's 1941 movie "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" (9:30 p.m., TCM) is its director: none other than Alfred Hitchcock. After establishing his reputation as the master of suspense, Hitchcock took a vacation from murder and mayhem to direct this frothy comedy about a devoted but fiery married couple, Anne (Carole Lombard) and David Smith (Robert Montgomery). The couple, after several years of marriage, discover that because of a geographical technicality they aren't legally married. From then on, it's one laugh after another as David is forced to pursue, woo and win Anne all over again. During his romantic pursuit, David must contend with Anne's new suitor (Gene Raymond).
A new episode of "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" (10 p.m., HBO) includes a report on Mitchell & amp; Ness, the Philadelphia firm that is a leader in meeting the demand for those pricey "throwback" sports jerseys favored by hip-hop artists, athletes, and any number of nonfamous people. The company is said to have established a reputation as "the Gucci of vintage-jersey makers."
