NILES -- Get the answers to college financial aid questions at the McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St.
Beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 8, a financial aid adviser from Kent State University Trumbull Campus will explain the difference between student loans, grants and scholarships, as well as explain various financial aid forms.
The free program will be in the Clayman Community Room.

Library hours increase
LORDSTOWN -- Beginning the week of Jan. 4, the Lordstown Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 1471 Salt Springs Road, will be open 48 hours each week.
Because of budget cuts, the library's board of trustees originally planned to cut operation hours from 54 to 24 each week, but a grass-roots campaign increased the hours again.
As of Jan. 5, branch hours will be noon-4 and 4:30-8 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The branch is closed Sundays.

Book signing in Howland
HOWLAND -- Laura Mills-Alcott, author of the historical romance "The Briar and the Rose," will sign copies of her book from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 9095 E. Market St.
Lordstown school board
LORDSTOWN -- The village board of education will conduct its organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 14, with the regular meeting to follow.
The board will also meet with the district's Financial and Supervision Commission at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 to discuss steps needed to be released from fiscal emergency.
Both meetings take place at the high school.
