Canfield man seeks commissioner's seat

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Canfield man who served as chairman of the 2000 Youngstown school bond issue campaign filed his nominating petitions to run for Mahoning County commissioner.
Tim Batton, 52, is running for the commissioner seat held by Ed Reese, who isn't seeking re-election next year.
Jan. 2 is the filing deadline to run in the March 2 primary.
Since 1989, Batton has worked as regional construction manager for Geo. P. Reintjes Co., a Youngstown refractory construction and specialty services maintenance company.
Besides running the Youngstown school campaign, Batton has served as a Democratic precinct committee member from 1998 to 2002, and is a former board member of the Youngstown Playhouse and ACTION.
Batton unsuccessfully ran in 2000 for the Democratic nomination for an Ohio House seat that was captured by state Rep. John Boccieri.
Batton is the only Democrat to file for the seat, although Anthony Traficanti of Poland, the regional director for former U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr., is expected to run for the position.
Also, Sam Moffie of Boardman has filed for the seat as a Republican.
