KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Ryobi's is currently offering four gadgets that locate studs in the walls. Two of them can measure as well as find.
MeasureTech Plus is a professional-grade stud finder with the ability to detect wood or metal studs. It has a scanning depth of 1.5 inches and an LCD display.
It is also a sonic measuring device that can find interior room measurements up to 50 feet, making it useful for determining paint and flooring needs and helping Realtors and appraisers with estimates.
It also has a conversion reference that can add lengths, find square and cubic measurements, and convert to and from foot and metric measurements.
The price is under $40; a 9-volt battery is included.
The WallTech also finds both wood and metal studs through floors, walls and ceilings, and it has a built-in 8-foot measuring tape with both foot and meter measurements, eliminating the need to carry a tape measure.
The price is under $20; a 9-volt battery is included.
The StudTech Pro can detect wood or metal studs, metal rebar or pipe, and hot, unshielded AC wiring as deep as 1.5 inches with an LCD display and audio indicator. It works on commercial and residential buildings.
The price is under $30, and that 9-volt battery is included.
