PHOENIX Cal's star receiver may miss Insight

The junior ranked second behind Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald.
PHOENIX (AP) -- California star receiver Geoff McArthur probably will miss Friday's Insight Bowl against Virginia Tech because of a broken right forearm.
"I think it would be miraculous if he would be able to play," Bears coach Jeff Tedford said Wednesday.
The injury occurred in the team's practice Sunday and initially was called a bruise.
But Tedford opened his pre-bowl news conference by saying the arm was broken. "It's not completely out of the question that he will play," Tedford said.
"We'll see how it responds in the next couple of days, but the chances are not good."
The junior receiver caught 85 passes for a school record 1,504 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He ranked second in the nation, behind Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald, with 115.7 yards receiving per game.
His yards receiving rank third on the Pac-10 single-season list, just 16 shy of the conference record set by USC's Johnnie Morton in 1993.
Set school records
In his final regular-season game, against Stanford, McArthur broke Cal school records with 16 catches for 245 yards.
The breakthrough season came after three difficult seasons marred by injury.
He missed nearly all of the 2001 season after severely cutting his arm when he slammed it through a window following a loss to Illinois.
He got off to a strong start in 2002, but a hamstring injury bothered him down the stretch. He finished with 36 catches for 454 yards and a touchdown.
McArthur was injured when, as he tried to catch a low pass, his arm slammed against his thigh.
On Tuesday, he expressed optimism he would be able to play, but was held out of practice later in the day because the arm was so swollen and painful.
Junior Chase Lyman will start in McArthur's place, Tedford said. Lyman caught seven passes for 107 yards this season.
