Forcible impregnation conviction is upheld

COLUMBUS (AP) -- The Ohio Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the conviction of an Akron man who forcibly impregnated his stepdaughter through artificial insemination.
The court without comment let stand an appeals court ruling that affirmed John Goff's 2002 conviction in Summit County. Goff, 42, had argued that out-of-court statements by his wife, Narda Goff, should not have been presented to the jury.
Goff also argued the jury should not have been told that a legal definition of force can be met simply by the fact he was the girl's parent.
"The parent's position of authority and power, in relation to a child's vulnerability, creates a unique situation of dominance and control," the 9th Ohio District Court of Appeals in Akron said in ruling against Goff in August.
Goff was found guilty of using a syringe to impregnate his then 16-year-old stepdaughter. Her son, born in 1999, was to be placed for adoption.
Goff is serving a 20-year prison sentence in Trumbull Correctional Institution for rape and child endangering.
