Library in Warren plansmock Caldecott election
WARREN -- On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the children's department staff of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will host a mock Caldecott election for parents and children ages 6-12 and area educators. The library is on 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W. in Warren.
Participants are invited to view a display of the year's best picture books and cast their ballot for the best illustrations.
The Caldecott Medal, given by a division of the American Library Association to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children, was named in honor of 19th-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. The official Caldecott medal recipient will be announced Jan. 12.
Workshop to cover research
AUSTINTOWN -- Local author Jo Anne Cassity will hold her writing workshop Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at the Heron's Landing Clubhouse in Austintown. Seating is limited. There will be refreshments, in-class assignments and participation. Please bring a pen and notebook. The discussion topic this month is "Research -- Making it Work for You and Your Project." Every workshop touches on the ins and outs of dealing with editors and agents.
