HORIZON LEAGUE Butler's quick start stops Indiana State



The Bulldogs took a 12-2 lead and Indiana State never got closer than seven.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Mike Monserez scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Butler to a 57-39 victory over Indiana State on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (4-4) jumped to a 12-2 lead, and never let the Sycamores (3-4) get closer than six points behind the rest of the game. Indiana State moved to within seven points early in the second half, but Butler responded with a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach.
David Moss led the Sycamores with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Moss, the only Sycamores player to score in double figures, also led Indiana State with five rebounds.
W. Michigan 79, Loyola-Chicago 61
CHICAGO -- Ben Reed had 20 points and nine rebounds and Mike Williams scored all 18 points in the second half to lead Western Michigan.
Western Michigan (5-1) trailed 35-31 at halftime, but the Broncos went on a 22-7 run to open the second period and shot 64 percent in the second half. Anthony Kann had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Broncos.
Blake Schilb scored 18 of his 21 points in the opening period for Loyola (2-4), hitting four 3-pointers in the final five minutes before halftime. Schilb finished with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Detroit 77, Canisius 74
BUFFALO N.Y. -- Elijah Warren scored 23 points to lead Detroit.
James Thues finished with 18 points and three steals for Detroit and Willie Wallace had 12.
Dewitt Doss led Canisius with 22 points, while Toby Foster had 14 and Downey 13.
Akron 61, Cleveland St. 59
CLEVELAND -- Jeremiah Wood hit a layup with five seconds left to lift Akron to a 61-59 victory over Cleveland State Saturday.
Akron (6-2) trailed 59-56 with 22 seconds left but tied it on Derrick Tarver's 3-pointer with 12 seconds to play. Mario Collins then stole the ball, and Wood's layup put the Zips ahead for good.
Jermaine Robinson's jumper at the buzzer missed. He and Omari Westley each had 19 points for Cleveland State (4-4), and Westley also had 14 rebounds.
Tarver led Akron with 19 points. Wood finished with 11 and Matt Futch had 10.
Illinois-Chicago 90, Northwestern 71
CHICAGO -- Aaron Carr scored 21 points for Illinois-Chicago.
Armond Williams and Cedrick Banks each added 20 points for Illinois-Chicago (9-2).
The Wildcats' Jitim Young led all scorers with 27 points while Vedran Vukusic finished with 23.
