BOYS BASKETBALL Unbeaten Fitch rolls past Chaney, 69-55



The 6-0 Falcons handed the Cowboys their fifth straight loss.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kelvin Shaw poured in 20 points Tuesday for the Chaney High basketball team, but they weren't enough as the Cowboys were dealt a 69-55 loss to Austintown Fitch.
Fitch (6-0) remained unbeaten, while the Cowboys (0-5) are still seeking their first victory this season.
Terrell Eargle countered with 20 points for the Falcons, while Mark Aikens added 17 points. Ty Eargle and Mike Hardy also had 10 points for Fitch.
For Chaney, Jeremy Tomlin added 13 points.
Newton Falls 79, Howland 63
HOWLAND -- Newton Falls (3-1) got double-digit scoring from five players and the team connected on 11 3-point goals.
Kirby Spahlinger led the way with 17 points, while Chad Rankin (14 points), Eric Medallis (13), Alex Cooper (13) and Andrew Grunder (11) added support.
Troy Ballint had 13 rebounds for the winners, who gave coach Roy Sembach his 200th career win, all at Newton Falls.
Cody Chappell scored 16 points and Justin Byler and Ryan Johnson each scored 13 points for Howland (2-3).
Newton Falls led by 28 points (62-34) after three quarters.
Sebring 56, Jackson-Milton 43
SEBRING -- Matt Ferguson had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans to their third straight victory.
Sebring also got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Joe Amabeli and 10 points, six assists, three steals and three blocks from David Scarpitti. Joe James added six points, three assists and four steals.
For Jackson-Milton (3-2), Zach Nicholas had 17 points while Tim Shaw added 11 and Justin Vayner 10.
Wellsville 71, East Palestine 67 (OT)
WELLSVILLE -- The Tigers (3-1) got 18 points each from Bill McNicol and Josh Congrove in their overtime victory over East Palestine.
McNicol also had 16 rebounds and four assists to go with Brandon Thomas' 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Derek Thompson had six points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Tom Johnson scored 33 points for East Palestine while Brett Young added 18.
Beaver Local 51, Columbiana 40
COLUMBIANA -- Pat Woods had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Beaver Local past Columbiana.
Zach Cochran added 11 points for the Beavers (5-1).
For Columbiana (4-2), David Cramer had 16 points.
West Branch 56, Canton South 47
CANTON -- Nate Greenawalt poured in 27 points with five rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead West Branch to a Northeastern Buckeye Conference victory.
The Warriors (2-5, 2-2) made 18-of-19 foul shots.
