Jury considers fate for convicted sniper

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) -- After riveting closing arguments, the jury that convicted teenage sniper Lee Boyd Malvo of capital murder began deliberating his fate, weighing the prosecution contention that he is a "prodigy in evil" and the defense's plea that "every person is redeemable."
The jury of eight women and four men met Monday for three hours without reaching a decision on the 18-year-old's fate. The panel was to resume work today.
Death and life without parole are the only options for the jury to consider.
Malvo was found guilty last week of murder in the killing of FBI analyst Linda Franklin, who was cut down by a single bullet to the head outside a Home Depot store. It was one of 10 slayings that gripped the Washington area with fear for three weeks in October 2002.
