Households without gas
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- More than 3,000 households in western Pennsylvania's three largest natural gas companies' service areas started the winter heating season without gas, up almost 16 percent from last year, according to a state survey. According to the state Public Utility Commission's annual cold weather survey, 3,101 households served by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Dominion Peoples Gas Co. and Equitable Gas Co. did not have natural gas service as of Dec. 15.
Last year, about 2,700 began the heating season without the service. Statewide, about 12,100 households did not have natural gas service last month -- up from about 11,230 during the same time last year. According to the survey, most of those households -- 9,061 -- were natural gas customers.
