FARRELL, PA. Mobilization order canceled for local unit

FARRELL, Pa. -- The 475th Quartermaster Group of the U.S. Army Reserves won't be going on active duty in America's war on terrorism after all.
The 100-soldier unit, based at the Pendel-Caminiti Army Reserve Center here, had been notified last month that it would be activated Dec. 7 and was told to report to Fort Dix, N.J., for mobilization Dec. 13.
Things changed last week when the mobilization order was canceled, said Jack Gordon, spokesman for the 99th U.S. Army Reserve Command Center in Oakdale, Pa.
The 475th is an administrative unit that, at one point, managed all of the fuel distribution for American troops in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield in 1990 and 1991.
Although the 475th won't be going, the 635th Quartermaster Detachment, also based here, is still under activation orders.
The 11 soldiers in that detachment reported to Pendel-Caminiti on Sunday and will go to Fort McCoy, Wis., for mobilization Saturday.
The 635th handles water and petroleum distribution and also served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Its specific destination and assignment haven't been revealed, but the detachment is expected to be sent to the Middle East in support of either Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
